Rambles by Rock

Today was day one of the honeymoon in Paris, and even with the rain it turned out just fine.  Our flight landed a bit late, due to technical difficulties getting off the ground in Atlanta (something was wrong with the entertainment system, and God forbid people have to fly without the ability to watch re-runs of The Office).  We were picked up by Christian, the American Driver in Paris, who took us to a small park in Montmatre to enjoy cheeses, fruit, pastries, and champagne.  Then we drove around Paris, where he pointed out the major sites for us to come back to throughout the week.

After that we were exhausted, so we checked into the hotel for a quick nap.  We’re staying at the Hilton Arc de Triomphe . As soon as we arrived in the room a bottle of champagne was delivered, along with some sort of chocolaty dessert. We still have the champagne on ice, but the dessert was wonderful. We think Sabrina mentioned it’s our honeymoon when she made the reservations, as that is the only reason they would have sent this our way.

The hotel is very interesting, with an art deco interior. It reminds me of Rockefeller Center.

At any rate, rather than boring everyone with every detail, after a short nap (in which we were awoken by an intercom malfunction) we went to the Arc de Triomphe. There’s a beautiful view of the city from there. After that we wondered around, hopped on a train, and went to the other side of Paris near the Pont Neuf to try to find something for dinner which was authentic and non-touristy. Mission accomplished. We had a fabulous dinner in a local bistro.
